Remembrance
Maxwell Rodgers
College of Engineering
Major: Software Development BS
Attended: Fall 2022 - Fall 2024
There is much to say about Maxwell, he is an incredible being. His laugh in particular I have always loved and feeling the ways in which he is welcoming and spreads absolute joy. I loved dancing in the kitchen, going on late night (somewhat risky) fast food drives when the weather was snowy, and visiting the cats at the humane society on particularly hard days. He has always impressed me with his drive and passion for his hobbies and his career path, a completely creative mind. He is someone who just does absolutely anything he puts his mind to, there has never been a maybe. I miss Max tremendously and love him dearly. Remembering him has been an important part of the journey through grief. He is not one to linger in hard times for too long and that gives me a lot motivation to continue living a fulfilled life. His animals will always be loved and he will always be remembered as the fantastic person he is.

The first time my girlfriend met our friend group she was extremely nervous and scared of not fitting in. The first thing Max did when they saw her was give her a signature Maxwell hug. It really made her feel welcome. Maxwell was incredibly outgoing at making everyone feel loved.

Maxwell was the only person to come with me to all the protests and marches I would
hear about. The one I remember most was in January 2024.
I threw together two posters for us to hold up, made with cardboard I had lying
around and sharpie. I picked him up along with Will, and we sped off. When we got
there, we joined the crowd and marched and chanted along. We joked about a lady in
front of us, who was chanting so out of sync and saying wildly different things, that
she must've been an opp.
Eventually, the winds picked up and it started to snow, decently hard. Luckily,
I had brought an umbrella, and the three of us huddled closely together, taking turns
holding the posters before our hands got cold. It had to have been 5°, we were practically
standing on top of each other. After another hour in the cold, the protest ended,
and we got coffee together to warm up. I dropped Maxwell off at his house, and I think
we all played League once Will and I got home. The first time my girlfriend met our
friend group she was extremely nervous and scared of not fitting in. The first thing
Max did when they saw her was give her a signature Maxwell hug. It really made her
feel welcome. Maxwell was incredibly outgoing at making everyone feel loved.

I don't think many people know this, but Maxwell is the entire reason the crawfish
boils and the gumbo parties started.
Maxwell talked about crawfish often. He loved them so much, and kept trying to
find places to eat them in Utah (not an easy task). He was so desperate he even went
to King Buffet with Will, Camary, and I just to eat the crawfish they had. In May
or June of 2023, Maxwell was over at my house once again talking about how much he
wanted some crawfish. It was summer and I was unemployed and out of school, so I asked
him "If you really want, I can try to set up a boil. I've never had crawfish and I
have nothing better to do, so why not?". He was practically jumping with excitement
at this. Later that week, I bought a 100-quart pot off of Facebook marketplace and
ordered 20lbs of crawfish shipped directly from Louisiana. I set up a party, and the
whole thing was a massive hit. The crawfish were delicious, and everyone was more
than satisfied. I asked Maxwell if it was everything he hoped and dreamed for, and
he said it was better than imagined.
Since then, I've hosted numerous gumbo parties using that same pot, and 2 more
crawfish boils, both of which Max enthusiastically attended. If it wasn't for his
incessant love of crawfish, I never would have bought that pot, and the gumbo raves
would never have happened. Thank you, Max! I enjoyed eating crawfish and gumbo with
you so much!

Max was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and no amount of words or stories will ever fully describe how wonderful and special Max was. Max was the most kind, most caring, down to earth, level headed, funny, passionate, awesomesauce person ever, who had this infectious drive and attitude towards life that would bring up and encourage all who met him and that’s not even a fraction of who Max was. During the days after his passing I looked back fondly on around the time I first met him. He had just turned 18 and was still living up in Logan at the time and gave me a call late at night saying “hey do you wanna go to Idaho and get scratch offs and a lottery ticket?” I of course went. And when we got them Max kept winning just enough from the scratch offs to buy another one or two or three and he would give us the others. We kept at it for a decent bit of time before Max finally hit it big, about $10, and ecstatic with his earning we went back into that gas station and Max bought himself and I matching key chains. Max will always be loved and missed.
